2. The “Smacking Sound”

Wouldn't it be great if we could make a noise at any time so that our dog would immediately pay attention to us? Well luckily for us there is, and it's called the "thump sound"! But before we can harness its power, we must teach our dog that this particular sound = food.To do this, with your dog in a quiet room, make a sound as if you are

kissing the air and then give it a treat immediately. No matter what he's doing when you give him the treat (as long as he's not doing anything wrong like breaking the couch), the idea is simply to show him that every time he hears the sound, he receives treats. After doing this for a while, you should notice that your dog looks at you for his treat every time you make the sound. With continued practice, you can begin to use the sound of banging in everyday life when you want to get your dog's attention!

However, keep in mind that the sound of banging may be less effective at times when your dog is overly upset. For example, if you have seen something outside that you are reacting strongly to, its sound may go unnoticed. 3. The Importance of Incentives

There are so many different types of incentives, but food rewards is the  most common. These rewards are awarded to a dog each time it successfully performs a certain action. We are teaching our dog to "sit up" for the first time.

When you feel successful, we would reward your effort with a dog biscuit or kibble. Now the next time we ask you to sit down, you will be eager to do so because you know you will get something tasty in return.

4. Reward Voluntary Check-ins

When you are in the garden with your dog, how often does he pay attention to you? Most likely not much, as he is too busy exploring the world with his powerful tracker. it's time to  change little ...

When you're out in the garden, make it a habit to bring some high-value treats (for example, cooked chicken slices). Keep these treats on hand in a pocket or treat bag. Now whenever your dog walks within arm's reach, compliment him and reach out your hand to offer him a treat. If you do this often enough, positive reinforcement will work its magic and you will soon notice your dog communicating with you more and more. This is great news, because it means that he is learning that you are worth his attention!
